Pocosol Field Station
Pocosol offers an unparalleled opportunity to get off the beaten path and into the heart of the rainforest. The station is accessible by four-wheel drive vehicle from La Fortuna (1 hour) or La Tigra de San Carlos (40 minutes). Located in the heart of the Children's Eternal Forest, Pocosol allows the visitor to experience first-hand the biodiversity and scenic beauty of the tropical rainforest.
Pocosol is located on the Caribbean slope at about 720 meters above sea level and features primary and secondary forest with an incredible diversity of birds, frogs, reptiles, and mammals. The station offers lodging, meals, trails, and is an ideal starting point for exploring the surrounding forest. It is open all year round for tourists, student groups, and researchers.
10 km of trails through primary and secondary forest, to a lagoon, a waterfall, and fumaroles. Beautiful scenic views of the Peñas Blancas Valley and thousands of hectares of tropical forest from the station. Day and night walks with a naturalist guide (only with prior reservation).
Spectacular bird watching and a wide variety of frogs, reptiles and mammals.

Trails are open daily from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. No prior reservation is required for trail use.
